What “NOT” to do when using AI for coding

What “NOT” to do when using AI for coding
While everyone discusses how to utilise AI tools to increase productivity, let’s focus on how not to use AI tools, specifically for coding.
Because when AI tools start hallucinating, you will see your frustration increasing rather than your productivity.
After testing a few AI assistants for coding across real-world coding tasks, let us understand some common mistakes to avoid.
What “NOT” to do when using AI for coding
1. Assuming paid = better
Surprise!!
Free Claude 4 Sonnet passed all tests. The paid Claude 4 Opus failed half.
Like many good free things, some free AI tools work better. Don’t equate price with performance.
2. Trusting the answers blindly
Even the best LLMs can generate plausible but wrong code. Always test and validate.
3. Using the wrong AI tool for the job
Not all AI tools for coding are built equally. Some couldn’t even build a basic plugin.
4. Skipping version checks
Different AI versions perform very differently.
GPT-3.5 vs GPT-4o = Big difference.
Know what version you’re working with.
5. Relying on AI for entire applications
AI can assist in writing code snippets, fixing bugs, and explaining logic.
But building entire apps?
That’s unfortunately or fortunately still on you (for now)!!
